Honey Garlic Asiago Dinner Rolls

Easy and delicious, these Honey Garlic Asiago Dinner Rolls are fluffy and full of flavor!

Dinner rolls like these are easy and quick to make thanks to instant yeast. Add in cheese and top with a delicious honey garlic butter and these rolls are pretty perfect!

Of course, you can use whatever cheese you like. Sharp cheddar is especially great with these. If you don't want to make these with cheese, go ahead and omit it. They'll be great without it too.

I'd say the most important part of this recipe is the honey garlic butter topping. It adds to much flavor to these rolls and compliments the asiago perfectly.

To help avoid a doughy bottom to the rolls, I like to bake them on the bottom rack. I'm not sure if this completely helps or not but I feel like it helps crisp and cook the bottom slightly. This also seems to help with making sure the rolls don't brown too early.

Honey Garlic Asiago Dinner Rolls
Adapted from Taste of Home
  • 2 to 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour (white whole wheat flour can be substituted for half of the all purpose)
  • 3/4 cup shredded asiago
  • 3/4 cup warm water (about 115 F)
  • 1 (1/4 oz) packet instant yeast
  • 2 tablespoons white granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons plus 4 teaspoons unsalted butter, melted & divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
In the bowl of a stand mixer or food processor, fitted with a dough hook, add 1 1/2 cups flour, sugar, and yeast. Pulse to combine. Add salt, 2 tablespoons of the melted butter, and water. Beat until smooth and flour is incorporated. Mix in cheese and remaining 1/2 to 1 cup flour until a soft dough forms. Knead for 4 to 6 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. Cover and allow to rest for 10 minutes.

Grease a 9" round cake pan (I used butter) and set aside.

After 10 minutes, divide the dough into 12 pieces. I cut the dough in half, then in half again to get four pieces. Then cut each fourth into thirds. Form into balls and arrange in the cake pan. Cover and allow to double in size, about 30 minutes.

When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350 F. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes (I like to bake them on the bottom rack) or until lightly golden browned.

While rolls are baking, combine the remaining 4 teaspoons melted butter, honey, salt, and garlic powder. Set aside.

When rolls are done, brush them with the butter mixture. Remove from the cake pan and allow to rest on a cooling rack.
