Simple and fresh, this {Maple Sweetened} Kombucha Chia Apple Cranberry Sauce is a delicious twist on the classic!
Every year, I make a apple cranberry sauce. Not for thanksgiving though, I actually make it for sandwiches. This year instead of water and sugar, I used kombucha and maple syrup. It tastes amazing and is perfectly sweetened (for us). The kombucha is super vinegary when first added to the sauce but as everything boils it all melds. If you like the kombucha flavor and want the live probiotic benefits, add water (1/2 cup) to the sauce while boiling and add the kombucha (as much as desired) after the sauce is off the heat. The sauce will, of course, be thinner but should thicken when chilled. Adding more chia seeds will also help thicken.
{Maple Sweetened} Kombucha Chia Apple Cranberry Sauce
- 1 (12 oz) bag fresh cranberries, washed
- 1/2 orange, juiced & zested
- 1 large apple, diced
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1/2 cup maple syrup or agave
- 1/2 cup ginger kombucha
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
Add all the ingredients to a saucepan. Bring to a boil and cook until thickened, about 6 to 8 minutes.
Remove then cinnamon stick then refrigerate until ready to serve.
