Valentine's Day Egg-in-a-Hole

Delicious and adorable, this Valentine's Day Egg-in-a-Hole is perfect for breakfast in bed!

We love to make egg-in-a-hole toast for breakfast at our house. It's easy to make and delicious every time. We also love avocado toast so we almost always add a little mashed avocado.

To make these egg-in-hole toasts extra special, all I did was cut a heart shape out of the bread. If you have a large heart-shaped cookie cutter, go ahead and use that. I just use a pairing knife to cut out a large heart in the center of the bread slice. Cute and easy, but not necessary at all. I usually just use a mason jar to punch out a hole in the toast.

Serve this delicious toast with fruit salad for a healthy and delicious breakfast this Valentine's Day!

Valentine's Day Egg-in-a-Hole
Serves 2
  • 2 slices whole grain bread
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 avocado, mashed
  • salt, to taste
  • pepper, to taste
  • hot sauce or lemon juice, for serving (optional)
With a pairing knife or large heart cookie cutter, cut a heart shape out of the center of the slice of bread. Carefully punch out heart crouton and set aside.

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add butter until melted. Add bread slices and heart pieces. (Depending on the size of your pan, you may have to work in two batches) Toast lightly on one side, about 30 seconds, then flip. Crack egg in to center of bread slice and season with salt and pepper. Cook until bottom sets, about 1 minute, or to your liking. Remove toasted heart croutons and set aside. Carefully, flip bread slices and cook other side of egg, about 1 minute, or cooked to your liking. Remove from skillet and set on a plate. Top with hot sauce or lemon juice if desired. Take the bread croutons and smear with mashed avocado. Serve with egg-in-a-hole toast.
